Igreja Emmanuel Evangélica Wesleyana started becauseof the evangelistic ministry of Rev. Isaac Lehman, in the gold mines of Johannesburg, South Africa. Seasonal Mozambican workers were converted and discipled under the Africa Evangelistic Mission and returned to Mozambique to start local churches. The early beginnings were centered in the southern part of thecountry in Gaza Province. With civil war and migration to the cities, the church spread and grew in Maputo Province. Isaac Lehman and his son, Orai I. Lehman visited the church occasionally, but were not able to reside in the country. Once the war finished, Orai D. Lehman (grandson of of Isaac Lehman) moved from South Africa to Mozambique as a resident missionary in 1994. This was the first time in its 60-70 year history that Mozambique had Wesleyan missionaries living in the country.

Following the war the church spread northward, and with the addition of the JESUS Film Project, there has been extraordinary expansion across the country. The Mozambican church is recognized as the fastest growing Wesleyan church in the world.

Campus - Xai Xai Wesleyan Bible College

Fish for Hope - Xai Xai: The administrators of Xai Xai Wesleyan Bible College have been developing ways to supplement the nutritional needs of the students and also reduce the financial dependency of the college through sustainable agricultural projects. This aquaculture project proposes to produce tilapia fish for use by the college and to serve as a means of instruction for students to develop skills in aquaculture. They can then use this knowledge and experience to help support their families when they return to their home districts after graduation. Give online.

Audio Scriptures: Audio Scripture Ministries has been cooperating with the Wesleyan recording studio for a couple years and they have started to put recording of the New Testament in Portuguese, Makua, Shangaan and other tribal languages here in Mozambique. They then transfer the recordings to solar-charged MegaVoice players that are compact and easy to use. This allows people to hear the N.T. in their own language. This is especially good in those areas where there isn't a high literacy/education. There has been a great response to them and we want to try to get more distributed. We ask each recipient to pay a little more than $3 for each one to give them a sense of ownership, although the actually cost for them is closer to $45. Give online.

Nampula Church Plant: The Mozambique national church has set a goal to reach the final four providences of Mozambique. Nampula is one such providence. Church planters have strategically chosen its capital city, also named Nampula, to begin their ministry in as it is the third largest city in Mozambique. Give online.
