When Andrew and Gbolu Bondo were sent from Liberia to Nigeria for further study in November 2001. While studying, the Lord gave Gbolu and Andrew the burden for the first Wesleyan Church Plant in Nigeria. After prayer and careful thought, Andrew made a trip back home to Liberia for approval of the Wesleyan Church of Liberia. The DBA approved and the matter was further taken to the Annual District Conference of the Wesleyan Church of Liberia where the proposal was overwhelmingly approved. The Bondos were thus commissioned as the first Wesleyan Missionaries to Nigeria. The first Wesleyan Church plant was inaugurated by Rev. Isaac S. Wheigar who then served as District Superintendent. He traveled to Lagos, Nigeria for the ceremony.

The Nigerian church reports to the Liberian district conference annually.
